LIFE DANUBE FREE SKY RECEIVES THE IENE PROJECT AWARD 2026
The LIFE Danube Free Sky project has received the "IENE Project Award 2026", recognising its contribution to reducing bird mortality caused by power lines and fostering cooperation between nature conservation organisations and infrastructure operators. The award was presented on 24 September 2026 during the IENE 2026 International Conference in Bristol, United Kingdom. Marek Gális from Raptor Protection of Slovakia (RPS), the project coordinator, addressed the audience through an acceptance speech, expressing gratitude for the recognition and thanking all project partners for their contribution to this shared achievement.
The award also highlights the close cooperation between RPS and the Infrastructure & Ecology Network Europe (IENE). IENE was among the partners of the Free Sky for Birds international conference organised in Bratislava as part of LIFE Danube Free Sky. Building on this cooperation, RPS has also taken on the chairmanship of the IENE Birds & Powerlines Working Group, contributing to the exchange of expertise and promotion of bird-friendly solutions across Europe.
We sincerely thank IENE for this recognition and all LIFE Danube Free Sky partners for their dedication and cooperation in making power lines safer for birds.
